"Let's Kanikapila" Workshop: Join us for an immersive, jamming experience where we will learn the basics of group musical awareness, teamwork, and even some improvisation! Andrew has taken the approach of the "old Hawaiian style" and created a unique workshop where everyone can start jamming/improvising as soon as TODAY in a safe, low stake environment using a few techniques and approaches. No prior jam experience is needed, just an open mind and willingness to explore :) A working knowledge of the C scale will be helpful, but not required.
~Can't wait to jam soon,
Andrew Molina

He's back! And time has only made him better than ever! Andrew Molina has played venues all around the world, and Ventura County is in for a rare treat! You will not want to miss this opportunity.
Andrew will be performing some of his original works as well as familiar tunes that he has mastered in his own style. He is an amazing and energetic player with an infectious smile. You will be sure to be amazed and delighted with his performance.
Touring from Hawaii, four-time Na Hoku Hanohano Award Nominee for Ukulele Album of the Year, Andrew Molina will delight you with his prowess on the ukulele. Whether you are a musician or just a music lover, you will be entertained and amazed. Space is limited. General seating (no assigned seats). Event being held outside in the courtyard at Anacapa Ukulele.
Visit Andrew Molina's website for more information.
Onto A Shining StartAndrew started playing the ukulele when he was 13 years old and hasn’t looked back. His love and passion of this little instrument show in his playing and songwriting ability. His first CD, entitled “The Beginning”, on which he composed eight of the 11 songs was a finalist in the “Ukulele Album of the Year” category at the 2014 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawaii’s version of the grammy awards).
Moving Forward

His second CD, “A New Journey”, was released
in 2017 where Andrew composed 10 of the 14 songs. Special friends
and ukulele masters performing along with him include Jake Shimabukuro,
Kalei Gamiao and Craig Chee on cello. Two songs from “A New Journey” were featured in the 2017 indie film “Revenge in Kind

The Evolution Never Stops
His third album “Evolve” was released in 2020. Andrew really pushes the limits with new tunings, the addition of the low G, and more iconic covers. His most ambitious and technically difficult album yet!

Since Andrew's last Workshop & Performance at Anacapa Ukulele, Andrew has released a new album, "Generations," which was also a finalist for the 2025 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Ukulele Album of the Year. "Generations" features the great Latin percussionist Poncho Sanchez on one of the songs.
Andrew and his father, Jay, performed at the 2025 Na Hoko Hanohano Awards Ceremony in Honolulu.

<![CDATA[Hello, is anybody out there?]]>Thu, 02 Oct 2025 19:18:42 GMThttp://anacapaukulele.com/the-happenings/hello-is-anybody-out-thereHello Ukulele Fans!

I just wanted to check in since it's been a while since I last wrote anything here. Is anybody reading this? Does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody really care? (IYKYK)

Fall is my favorite season. Growing up and continuing to live in Ventura County, that may not seem like it means much, especially for those who have lived in areas of the world where there are very distinct changes with each season. For me, it is the season of finding crisp leaves to step on. I love the colors and the crunch. It means time to snuggle up with a blanket and a cup of hot tea. "Nesting" time. I love to see and hear the geese as they fly overhead in their "V" formation heading to (in my imagination) far off places to seek warmth for the upcoming winter months. And, it is the season of my birth, my wedding anniversary, and, Thanksgiving, and, one of my favorite holidays: Dia de Los Muertos.

During this time, I love to watch the sky as it showcases its beautiful clouds during the day and beautiful colors at sunset. And, somehow, at night, the stars seem within reach.

Thank you for spending some time in my little world. I hope that you find yourself resting and nesting and filled with love and gratefulness during this time.

Keep playing your heart's music.

And, please let me know if you read this: what is your favorite time of year, and why?

Aloha,

Lisa

<![CDATA[Mermaid Month at Ventura Harbor]]>Mon, 03 Mar 2025 16:38:18 GMThttp://anacapaukulele.com/the-happenings/mermaid-month-at-ventura-harbor In case you didn't know, we love to support our local community. And, music is a pretty fun way to do just that!

For years, even before we became the owners of Anacapa Ukulele, Lloyd and I, along with other ukulele players, have been playing ukulele and singing at the Mermaid Festival at Ventura Harbor every March.

Over the years, the other players have changed, but we are still showing up year after year to help bring festive music and even hula to the visitors of the
Mermaid Festival.

This year is no exception, we (the Anacapa Ukulele Ensemble) will be playing on two Saturdays this month (from 1 to 4 pm), and although, this means we have to close our shop, we make that sacrifice in order to be out supporting music and fun in our community.

If you do your shopping on Saturdays, please keep the dates in mind. If you are feeling like having a fun-filled day (or more) out in the ocean air, stop by and enjoy the festivities at the Mermaid Festival at Ventura Harbor.

We will be at the Mermaid Festival on the following two Saturdays:

March 8
March 22
(and therefore our shop will be closed on these days)

<![CDATA[Thank you for SEVEN YEARS!]]>Tue, 04 Apr 2023 14:37:13 GMThttp://anacapaukulele.com/the-happenings/thank-you-for-seven-yearsIt's a celebration!
Anacapa Ukulele is celebrating 7 years!
Thank you!

In 2016, we, Lloyd and Lisa "retired" from the real world of working (in the healthcare field); but, apparently, the world still needed us to continue as providers of health, happiness, and joy! Thus began the journey that we are still on: that of being facilitators of wellness through music, specializing in all things ukulele.

Seven years later, we are still in "practice" providing superior care to our "clients". Our doors remain open and we are happy to provide the services we offer.
We are once again humbled and honored to feature Kris Fuchigami as the headliner at our celebration.

We appreciate your business, your support, and your referrals. We remain exclusively brick-and-mortar (no internet or mail orders) because we strongly believe in the personal attention that can only be experienced "live."

We hope you can join us on May 21st to celebrate!

Thank you again for your business. We look forward to our next year and wish you peace, love, and music

Aloha,

Lloyd and Lisa
